The difference lies in the fact that you gather information and evidence from appropriate, valid sources to support your perspective on a topic or stand on an issue. Yet although your sources provide information that informs your thesis, the thesis ideas should be your own, particular to your personal way of thinking about and analyzing a topic. If your assignment asks you to take a position or develop a claim about a subject, you may need to convey that position or claim in a thesis statement near the beginning of your draft. The assignment may not explicitly state that you need a thesis statement because your instructor may assume you will include one. When in doubt, ask your instructor if the assignment requires a thesis statement. This final thesis statement presents an interpretation of a literary work based on an analysis of its content. Of course, for the essay itself to be successful topics to write a review essay on, you must now present evidence from the novel that will convince the reader of your interpretation. Why is this thesis weak? Think about what the reader would expect from the essay that follows: most likely a general, appreciative summary of Twain’s novel. But the question did not ask you to summarize; it asked you to analyze. Your professor is probably not interested in your opinion of the novel; instead, she wants you to think about why it’s such a great novel—what do Huck’s adventures tell us about life history research paper thesis statement, about America, about coming of age descriptive essays about my room, about race up essay, etc. First, the question asks you to pick an aspect of the novel that you think is important to its structure or meaning—for example, the role of storytelling, the contrasting scenes between the shore and the river heading for cover letter, or the relationships between adults and children. Included in this working thesis is a reason for the war and some idea of how the two sides disagreed over this reason. Maybe you decide that both sides fought for moral reasons, and that they just focused on different moral issues. You end up revising the working thesis into a final thesis that really captures the argument in your paper: Once you have a clear and relevant research topic at hand, your next step will be to gather information on that topic from legitimate sources. To ensure that you have enough information for your assignment, you should try to obtain the widest range possible of scholarly, up-to-date sources for your research. For a lengthy paper on a topic like endangered rhinoceroses, you would want to gather as many sources possible that deal with the animal's three most depleted species: the Javan essay master and margarita, Sumatran and east-African black rhinos. You will also need to determine a parameter for your thesis that will suit the length of your assignment. The general topic of endangered rhinoceroses, for instance, could be sufficiently explored in a paper that runs 20 pages or more. But if your assignment only calls for five or seven pages my self awareness essay, you would be better off narrowing down the topic and concentrating on one of the animal's three endangered species. You might feel very strongly about your trial thesis, but you should still keep your mind open as you continue on with your source gathering and reading.
